He then attended the University of Tennessee College of Law at Knoxville, Tennessee to earn his Juris Doctor degree in 1987. While in law school he was employed as a law clerk for the Senior Attorney of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. After graduation, he was privileged to become a law clerk with the federal judiciary for the Honorable Richard S. Stair, Jr. in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee for one year before entering the private practice of law with a trial law firm.
